For the 2027-2028 school year, a National Science Foundation grant covers the full cost of FUSE for Texas public and charter school teachers of 6th through 9th grade math.
Why math, why now
The middle grades are when many students decide whether they are "math people." That decision is rarely about ability. It is about whether students feel respected, whether mistakes feel safe, and whether they believe their teacher thinks they can succeed. FUSE gives math teachers research-backed practices to answer those questions well, without replacing anything in your existing curriculum.
What the grant covers
- $0 tuition for up to 20 6th-9th grade math teachers per district or charter (regularly $2,495 per teacher)
- A $1,000 honorarium from UT Austin for each Fellow
- The full fellowship: three virtual institutes, four virtual coaching sessions, Student Engagement Modules, and personalized Culture of Learning reports
Who is eligible
- Teachers of 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade math
- In a Texas public school district or public charter school
Want to include more teachers? Additional 6th-9th grade math teachers beyond 20 are $1,000 each. Other teachers, coaches, and administrators can join at the standard rate of $2,495.
Seats are limited
Grant funding covers the first 250 eligible teachers statewide. Districts reserve seats by signing an Interlocal Cooperation Contract (ICC) with UT Austin.
- December 1, 2026: Signed ICC due
- February 1, 2027: Teacher names due
